Description

After a successful poster shoot for Circa Nightclub in Toronto, I arranged to shoot with the stunning Danielle again, and this is the result.

sorry to say this but i think it's the model that does everything for this photo and not the photography at all... it's like a snapshot rather than any kind of model set up with the distracting background and the ever so slight reflection of her just looks messy imho, sorry

It's funny how when people haven't seen a model in person (when not brilliantly lit and composed professionally), they assume that the person in the photo just naturally looks "THAT good" all the time, and the photographer didn't actually do anything but snap a 'pic'.
How many time's I've worked with complete AMATEURS, who haven't modelled a day in their lives, and don't even LOOK like models (if you were to run across them in public you wouldn't give them a second look), and do photos of them that make them look like seasoned PRO's .... and viewers of the photos are like "Ho-hum ... yet another snap-shot of a super gorgeous person ... .big deal!" ... that, my GFX friends, is what you would call either judging a book by the cover, or jumping to conclusions.
I'm not saying these girls are 'ugly' by any means, I'm just pointing out that there is in fact a lot that goes into a lot of photos, the art of bringing OUT the natural beauty in subjects, that some people just don't grasp.

This was NOT shot in a studio. In fact pretty much ALL of my most studio-quality images were shot in situations VERY un-studio like. The background here was almost intentional! (How many times do I have to see so-called "pro" photographers shoot IN-STUDIO, and screw THAT up ... getting the backdrop supports and light stands in shot .... and not even having a clue how to edit them out properly.) .... so THANK YOU for your opinion. Go bother those established and well paid photographers that don't deserve such success.

you have me all wrong, im saying the model makes this photo... as in your job of capturing the model is great.. it looks natural etc.. its just that you seem to have forgotten about the background and the technicalities, i.e. her shirt is totally blown out on my screen, no detail what so ever which is somewhat blinding and distracting, and the background is to unthought out imo as i am finding myself focused more on the small details you could have captured which you didnt and it distracts me completly from teh overall photo itself.

Like i said, she looks like a lovely model and your work in capturing her looking natural has worked well, but everything else in the photo aside from her face is just very distracting

it's just my opinion, and im not at all a pro :) i dont think anyone can be a pro, because everyone has different tastes

I think her face is very well captured... I'm not sure about the rest of the body... seems overexposured to me!

From the discussion above I quite agree with Eos about the elements in the photo that distract a little bit. Don't take me wrong! As you, I don't like too much the traditional studio photos! I love natural taken photos, and it seems we have that in common!

feel quite mean now :$ but looking at it again i think it could work very well if it was a wider shot? so perhaps more of the background was in the shot so it felt like something else to look at in the photo rather than a bunch of random lines?

Hope you keep posting! :(

I'll keep posting EOS. ;)
I understand how distracting the overexposure and the lines may seem to some ... but not being a studio shoot, I still feel the background elements have their place in this photo - I feel it grounds the stunning beauty into reality more, as opposed to if it were 'studio-style' where a solid white background would leave her cold and fake looking ("Ho-hum, yet another hot-chick in front of a white wall!";).
I guess I'm starting to develop a style of Hybrid Candid-style+Studio-Look that most are not used to. I like this look, I hope others will too.
The overexposure is also a Plus in my eye, I felt that as such a glamorous look, nearly magazine-style, that the main focal points (the eye's, luscious lips, and hair) were the most important parts to focus on ... everything else (except the background) just washes away into white oblivion.
That's what I saw in this picture.

Pretty nice. I read why you like the overexposure, but it really distracts from the subject of the photo (the eyes, lips and hair that you mention); almost overbearing in a way. Other than that, watch out for the cropping, especially the top of the head; for this kind of pose would be better to see the top of her head.

I'm not offended...you told it like it is =S her shirt in really glaringly white on my compy as well and i don't think that the background was well thought out since the mirror is very minimal and could have been used in a more unique way or else just get it out of there. she also looks very over photoshoped...not as badly as some i've seen, but still her face especially looks unnatural (ps don't go ballistic on someone trying to help you improve your skills/talents it's very unprofessional and unbecoming) +0/7 for poor attitude =/
